Summary: Jessica Stanley is comfortable in her orderly life as a paralegal at a high end law firm. Having dated her fair share of liars and manipulators, Jessica views men through a pair of thick, cynical lenses. Men are good for one thing in her eyes, and one thing only.

Her predictable life is thrown into a whirlwind of new experiences when she meets a dominating man at a casual dinner with friends.

Royce Bradford is a man of intent and is used to getting his way. Until he meets Jessica. She is wound tight, and he finds himself yearning to unravel her secrets and her passions.

Jessica declares their relationship casual. She’s tempted by his seductive tone and unusually powerful demeanor to give him that much. But for Royce, it’s not enough. He wants more.

Except Jessica has built a secret tomb around her heart, and it will take a lot more than sensual play times and verbal commands for him to be allowed entrance. Royce never backs down from his desires. He takes up the challenge to seek out her Hidden Heart.

My thoughts: Hidden Heart was a pretty short read, that left me yearning for more as good BDSM erotica is very hard to find apparently. Most of the book is summarized above, and I don’t really feel like adding more to that without spoiling the rest of the book. But let’s say the plot twist toward the end was kind of predictable as there were lots of hints leading to that.

The book is written in the 3rd person which isn’t my favorite style of writing for this type of books because it puts too much distance between the reader and the main character. As such, I didn’t really feel for Jessica’s character and she seemed somewhat detached mostly. Also, there wasn’t a lot of delving into Jessica’s past which would have been nice to see.

But I liked the BDSM aspects. There was a pretty interesting sex scene involving clothespins, a blindfold and a game. Very erotic! And I really enjoyed Royce: dominant in private, sweet and caring in public. I really enjoyed him convincing Jessica to follow her dreams and making that happen for her. (No, it doesn’t evolve buying a publishing house). Overall pretty good book, but could have been better.  I’m curious about the next book in the series, Secured Heart, as the excerpt at the end seemed very interesting.

My rating: 3.5 stars
